Indies Blog: Guacamelee

Next up on our indie-venture is a title known as Guacamelee. This game is a Spanish/Mexican themed beat'em up and metroidvania type title, a combination that isn't usually done so props to this game for having a new innovative gameplay style. You play as Juan a simple hard worker and the president's daughter (aka love interest) is taken and you fight to get her back like a true hero! And within the first 10 minutes of gameplay you get brutally murdered......yeahhhhh. But not to worry in the land of the dead you find a mystical Luchador mask which allows you to fight through the land of the living and the land of the dead to save your love from evil!
Now the plot isn't really important but it's still got some significance and is actually pretty  darn good later on but I won't spoil anything for you first time players out there. The art style is really cool and appealing to look at and the references it occasionally makes to mexican culture is nice. The gameplay is metroidvania exploration mixed with beat'em up as I said before and the fighting and exploration compliment each other like salsa compliments chips. The power ups you get are really fun to use and fight with and get better and better as the game goes on. Also Guacamelee makes a lot of references to other games through posters and how you get the power ups which is an awesome little detail. So over all Guacamelee is a really fun game  and definitely a great pick up on Steam or any console.

IndieBlog: Don't Starve

Okay so Don't Starve is an indie game by Klei entertainment which is a Canadian company. Don't Starve in a nutshell is you basically, well as the name would imply Don't Starve. You find food, items, and etc. and build off of what supplies you can get to survive as long as you can. You have hunger, sanity, and health which you need to make sure don't go all the way down or you're basically fucked. Being too hungry and running out of health flat out kill you but losing your sanity just makes shadow creatures attack you (probably killing you) leaving small room for survival. When night comes you need a fire or light of some sort so darkness doesn't envelop your soul and you will be brutally murdered by "Charlie". The gameplay is really fun and promotes exploration of the map to get more supplies, get better stuff, and stay alive and it honestly feels like there's never a dull moment. Even when you're just waiting for night to end there's this atmospheric tension that just makes you feel anxious for the daylight. This game is really fun to play because of the tension and management you have to do in it. It makes you wan't to play more and more after you make progression in the game. After a while you can eventually make a farm and survive pretty easily so you can just explore and fight stuff and build more things. Also once you unlock more characters to play as you can alter your play style and experiment with new things to do and methods to stay alive.  The gameplay and atmosphere really compliment each other this game is addictive,at least to me anyways I just wanna live for more and more days.
Don't Starve Together is a beta for multiplayer Don't Starve it's basically the same thing except multiple people playing, also when you die you become a ghost and can troll a bunch too. But might I say being a troll is super fun especially when you have on PVP and your friend killed you. So yeah Don't Starve and Don't Starve Together both really awesome titles pick it up sometime on Steam or even on the Wii U now.

The nasty Dynasty Warriors games:

I haven't played many Dynasty warriors games but the ones I have played weren't the best. The two Dynasty warriors games I own are Dynasty Warriors Gundam and Dynasty Warriors Advance which are A. Sucky and B. Not a Dynasty Warriors game! So first off lets talk about Dynasty Warriors Advance on the GBA now I just wanna say that Dynasty Warriors Advance isn't a bad game it's just not Dynasty Warriors which sort of makes it inherently bad? Cause I had fun playing it the campaign is alright but it's just not the game you'd hope for. It's a turn based RPG sort of like Fire Emblem except for the battling is different and you can only freely move on paths. So it's like a Civilization Fire Emblem crossover on GBA which is interesting and weird but not really  Dynasty warriors. But anyways the battles sorta close to Dynasty Warriors that a limited system like the GBA could have so that kinda excuses the turn based Fire Emblem style but not really. The battles have an overhead camera and are sort of like regular Dynasty Warriors but not really. If you're noticing a pattern of sort ofs and not reallys then good cause the point I'm trying to make is it's not a Dynasty Warriors game it "sorta" is but "not really" a Dynasty Warriors game. It was only 3 dollars where I got it so it's definitely worth what it costs now. But at full retail price this title would probably fall flat. Next time on Dy-NASTY warriors: GUNDAM
